Summary
Dr. Cosmin G. Chiorean is
Professor (Full) of Structural Engineering at the Technical
University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN),Department of Structural Mechanics,
Romania.
He
graduated Faculty of Civil Engineering from TUCN (Civil Engineering
section)
in 1995 with MSc in Structural Engineering in 1996 and also Mathematics
and Computer
Science from Babes-Bolyai in 1999. In 2001 he got his Ph.D. in
Structural Engineering from Technical
University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania and since
2009 is Full Professor of Structural Engineering at TUCN. He
spent two years (2002-2004) as a
postdoctoral researcher at New University of Lisbon, Faculty of Science
and Technology, Lisbon, Portugal. Since 2013 Prof. Chiorean is PhD
supervisor in the field of Civil Engineering, he received his habilitation in civil engineering from
Technical University of Construction, Bucharest, Romania.
Prof.
Chiorean's research interests focus on improving
the computational
methods for design of civil structures, industrial buildings and bridges.
His research includes both computational and experimental techniques
with emphasis on the development and application of advanced numerical
methods to solve problems relevant to structural and geotechnical
engineering. His research findings are mainy implemented in the computer softwares
NEFCAD (Nonlinear
Inelastic Analysis of Frame Structures) and ASEP (Advanced Inelastic Analysis of
Cross-Sections), respectively.
He
has published 100+ papers in
refereed journals and conference proceedings and has authored a book
entitled "Software applications for nonlinear
analysis of 3D frame structures". He is the main developer of a FE
software packages GFAS (A
Finite Element System for Geotechnical Applications) and RSL III 2D (Local
Seismic Response for soils and structures) products of Geostru Corporation (Italy).
